St Stephens Chapel
Judges Bays, Auckland, NZ
Some of the graves removed from the Symond St. Cemetery were placed here? (I have been able to find any Lendrums)

James D. Richardson. Photograph of a drawing by John Kinder of St Stephens Chapel, Parnell, 1878. (Photo ref: 4-1188)
This 1878 drawing by the gifted amateur artist Reverend John Kinder quietly encompasses much of Auckland's early Anglican history. A graduate of Cambridge University, like Selwyn and Charles Abraham, Kinder arrived in Auckland in 1855 to take up the position of headmaster at the Church of England Grammar School in Parnell.
St Stephen's, the little chapel shown here, was built in 1857 on a site above Judges Bay that had been occupied by the Anglican church since 1844. The grave in the foreground is that of Robert Walpole Cowie, who died of meningitis in February 1875, aged only seven months. He was the son of William Garden Cowie, who took over from Selwyn as Bishop of New Zealand in 1869 and lived in Parnell for the rest of his life.
