Earliest Landrum Emigrants to America - John and James
In 1680's two brothers John and James Lendrum / Landrum arrived in Virgina.
(Most Landrum's in the US can trace their line to the brothers).
It is believed that their father was William Lendrum of Aberdeenshire (not proven) oral history of this family name is carried down through the lines of both
Lendrums / Landrums (Landrum is the Americanized Lendrum)
The following information was provided by Simon Lendrum. He is unsure of any connection with the New Zealand Lendrums - he believes his ancestors did have the name of Comyns but at sometime took the name of a small village in Scotland near Turriff.
Allegedly after a failed attempt to kill Robert the Bruce.
I have no ideal from whom this John Lendrum descends from - as he is born eighty years from when it's said the first Lendrums arrived in America?
I am recording this information because I have it and working on it.

James Lendrum (Great grandfather of James Harry Lendrum and great, great grandfather of Stella May Lendrum)
James worked for Mr. Sam McGredy as a professional Gardener. He helped Sam McGredy create the McGredy Rose, which is widely found through out the United States now.
Mr. McGredy planned on leaving Ireland for Australia and James and his family left Ireland for Toronto Canada. It is unknown as to why Mr. McGredy never made it to Australia.
From The Book on Roses, by Dr. G. Griffin Lewis, p. 139:] Samuel McGredy of Portadown, Ireland was born in 1859, and died in April, 1926. He took to hybridizing as a hobby and acquired such success that he was led into it on an extensive scale, becoming a prolific producer and owning the largest seedling house in the world.
Operated Samuel McGredy and Son Nursery with his father until his father's death in 1903.
[From The Makers of Heavenly Roses, by Jack Harkness,] "Sam McGredy [II] made a modest start at breeding roses about 1895, regarding it as more of a hobby than serious business; he raised two or three hundred seedlings a year...
